It is perhaps the most dramatic moment in the Grimm Brother's classic Fairy Tale, HANSEL AND GRETEL. The witch calls out to them: "Oh, you dear children, who has brought you here? Do come in and stay with me. No harm shall happen to you." Awed by this old woman, and her tantalizing candy house, Hansel turns to his sister, his mouth wide open in disbelief. Gretel, her eyes fixed upon the scene before her, clutches her brother's arm in fear. They are lost in the deepest part of the forest, abandoned by their parents, and now they must decide whether or not to trust this woman who appears so sinister in her drab clothes, yet welcomes them so sweetly.
On the back, it reads (in German): "The Grimm's Fairy Tale Collection painted by Charles Gehm for the city of Hanau, German Federal Republic, birthplace of the Brothers Grimm, in commemoration of the two hundredth anniversary of their birth." Also included on the back of the plate: the company logo for Konigszelt Bayern, and the Seal (profiles) of the Brothers Grimm.
