University of Chicago Plate by Spode

Although Wedgwood produced far more college plates for the US market, Spode also made a small but significant contribution, including this series of twelve plates issued in 1931 for the University of Chicago. The custom designed border is composed of Gothic architectural decoration, with three small vignettes of the University surrounded by ivy.  Most of the plates were transfer printed in black, although I have seen pictures of them in blue (photo below; I'd like to BUY any plate in blue!)  Approximately 10.5 inches in diameter, excellent condition  --  no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs, $49.  I have only one view in stock:  Harper Memorial Library.

Other Views in this series included Billings Memorial Hospital, Cobb Hall, Eckhart Hall, Harper Court, Hull Court, Hutchinson Court/Mitchell Tower, Ida Noyes Hall, Ryerson Laboratory, Snell/Hitchcock Halls, Swift Hall/Bond Chapel, and University Chapel.
